Personal development is quite easy to pursue when kids are not yet in the picture. But when they arrive, everything changes.

Most parents find it hard to adjust and keep up with things they did before they start having kids. 

It’s not because they want to, but managing kids is a daunting task on its own. But still, personal development is vital.

Having kids should do not mean one should stop living his or her life. So, as a parent with kids, how should you handle personal growth? Here’s a couple of advice for you.

1. Know thy Strength and Weakness

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. There are things you can handle that someone else can't, and vice versa.

So you need to acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses, such as how many hours of sleep you need in the night to be super smart during the day and so on.

If you stay awake all night and work sluggishly in the morning, there is no point continuing with such because your body will surely pay the sleep deficit in the morning.

Some people can wake up early in the morning before the kids do and work on their goals and still look smart during the day. But if you can't, don't force yourself to do it.

2. Learn to Prioritize

You may have heard something similar before, but there is no harm hearing it again. If you cannot prioritize, you might end up leaving things that are more important behind (!).

The advice here is to list all the activities you have to do each day. 

Your list may include business, training, workout, kids, sleep and time with your partner. Now, these are six areas you need to devote time to almost every day. And by the look of things, they are all essential.

Your list might be a bit different, but let’s use this as an example. You need to place each activity for the day in the right order and according to priority. You can also merge two events that are interrelated or that you can do simultaneously together.

For instance, you can read that personal development book while you are still at work. Instead of engaging in conversations with colleagues that will add little or no value to your life, take that spare time to build yourself.

3. Take Your Physical Fitness Serious

Your physical fitness is essential, don’t neglect it.

It’s only a healthy person that can pursue personal development or set and achieve goals.

So take your physical fitness activities serious. Eat healthily, and exercise regularly.

The challenges some parents have is how to exercise regularly with kids in the picture. But wait a minute, are kids not also humans? Do they not need exercise? Of course they do!

So if you are using a particular workout kit or activity, get something similar for your kids so that they can participate instead of sitting idle or distracting you.

4. Request for Assistance

Kids are unique creatures. Their wants and requests can sometimes make you want to scream out loud.

The only period most parents have enough time to pursue their personal development is when their kids are sleeping. But that shouldn’t also be the case.

You can get someone to help you look after your kids while you pursue personal development or focus on your goals.

Then, try to focus all your energy into whatever you are doing whenever you have such opportunity to be away from your kids.

Also, if you don’t have the resources to hire a babysitter, you can discuss with your friends or family relations to help out.

5. Have Great Night Sleep

No matter how tight your schedules are, one of your priorities should be sleep. Yes, you heard that right.

Get enough sleep every day so you can enjoy a healthy life.

You can choose to sleep earlier so you can wake up early. But have at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day.

This advice is for parents with kids. But anyone can apply them to achieve their personal development goals.

On the other hand, when you become a parent, know that you must adjust to accommodate the little ones and still have enough time and energy to pursue your targets.

It might be a bit challenging in the beginning, but everything will fall into place if you don't quit.
