Every professional will get stuck from time to time, wondering how he can push through now. Inspiration and motivation are two of the most precious resources that we constantly leverage to ensure a progressive personal and professional growth.

However, when our inspiration is lacking, we’ll often find ourselves struggling with our work. We are distracted.

We are distracted by bigger questions such as “How did I end up here?” or “Why do I hate my job?” or “What’s my higher purpose in life?”. These questions often come unwanted, yet they serve as powerful reminders of how unfulfilled we feel deep down inside.

When your inspiration is down, and you can’t feel the passion you were once feeling, the creativity flowing in your mind, the spark, the light, they’ll be temporarily gone.

Finding inspiration isn’t hard if you know what to look for and what to do when tough times arrive. Well, in today’s post, I’m sharing 8 ways to find the inspiration, the spark, and the power to keep on working. Pay attention and make sure you put these tips into implementation as quickly as possible!

How To Find Inspiration For Work: 8 Ways To Keep On Working

1. Replace the “Should” with  the “Why”

We often say, “I should” instead of “I must”. If the action we contemplate on is important and we address it with “should”, we are automatically sabotaging ourselves. Our subconscious mind picks up our thoughts every time.

Whenever we send a “must thought”, our subconscious mind will always remind us that we shouldn’t fail, procrastinate, or forget about that task.

When we use the word “should”, we are placing that action along with another hundred recent actions that we have previously stored. That’s not a good way to treat things!

I’d suggest that every time you catch a “should” thought, ask yourself “Why should I?.

If the answer you find is of high importance, mark that action or goal as a “Must”.

This simple trick will help you avoid motivation and inspiration problems when you have to deal with any type of work!

2. Find a Bigger Purpose

We, humans, live chaotically. There are so many people who live without a higher purpose in mind, without something to fight or die for. I’m not talking about making money, becoming famous, or becoming admired by other people.

I’m talking about real purposes that involve your contribution to the higher good.

When you give something to someone for free, without expectations, one of your basic human needs (the need of contribution) will be fulfilled, making you feel amazing.

In a fulfilled state of mind, finding the right inspiration is always easy.

You can only find something to contribute to if you start looking.

At first, you should focus on your coworkers. Second, you should find something that makes you feel compassion. Third, you should start thinking about how you can actually pursue your bigger purpose without sacrificing your job.

When you feel complete because of your contribution, finding the inspiration and motivation to work harder and better in every area of your life will be simpler than ever.

3. Practice Gratitude

Did you know that the feeling of gratefulness can diminish or completely eliminate all the possible negative feelings?

You should try it right now. Give yourself 10 to 15 minutes to reflect on what you have right now. Family, friends, a loyal lover…health, strength, intelligence, beauty, empathy, love...

Just seek everything you are grateful for and think about it for a few minutes.

Be truly focused and try to accept the feelings that come with the thoughts. Try being grateful everyday for a couple of minutes and notice the difference.

Whatever small issues you have will be gone, your feelings will brighten up, and your motivation and inspiration will increase at the same time.

4. Take It Step by Step

If you become overwhelmed by your job, project, or business, your inspiration will suddenly become null.

When you have hundreds of thoughts popping in your head every few minutes and when your emotional condition is negative (stress, worry, confusion), there is no place for high levels of inspiration.

Take everything step by step and focus on every action you take.

If you give your full focus on just a goal each day, you will do great and you’ll feel inspired to move on.

5. Align Your Thoughts, Emotions, and Actions

Thoughts, emotions, and actions. These are the three interconnected factors that shape your reality, and you must be well aware of how they work.

To feel inspired, you need to be aligned.
To be aligned, you must always act on your emotions, as your emotions are born by your thoughts.

Internal monarchy I would call it. When you feel what you think and do what you feel, you are going to shape your reality faster than you think.

You’ll feel inspired, motivated, and eager to get things done as nothing can ever stop you.

6. Seek Challenges

Boredom can often be a cause for the lack of work inspiration:

  • When we are challenged by something, we often act with our full hearts and minds;
  • When something bores us, we pay way less attention and passion;
  • When there’s no passion, there will be no inspiration!

The best thing you can do to get inspired is to seek the proper challenges that resonate with you the most.

7. Find Sources of Inspiration

We all need our sources of inspiration every now and then. Sometimes, we might forget to look for external motivation, and that can keep us in a low inspiration state for a long time.

However, when we see a person who has succeeded with what we try to succeed, something happens.

We feel inspired and motivated to become better, to do better, and to live better.

We are competitive beings that can always leverage other people’s achievements to build up our inspiration and motivation.

Try it – read a biography, watch how successful people live their lives, or start following blogs and resources of people that you respect and admire!

8. Tap into Your Willpower and Self-Discipline Traits

When your levels of inspiration and motivation are down, you can still do something to overcome your condition.

The keywords are willpower and self-discipline. Whether you realize it or not, you can always tap into your willpower push through your limits.

It’s a matter of how much you want it. Willpower and self-discipline are interrelated, and they work great together.

Every time you use your willpower to overcome a challenge, your self-discipline levels will grow, giving you enough confidence to keep using your willpower every time you need it.

Takeaways

Are you inspired now? You have just gained a few aces up your sleeve, ready to be summoned whenever your inspiration box is empty.

Keep in mind that you’re the only one responsible for your own state of mind and being, and the faster you decide to make a breakthrough the quicker you’ll regain your motivation and inspiration to keep on working.
